Ask Is it smart to specialize in serving one type of business or to keep your client base wide?

I often see freelancers who focus on one type of client, like only small businesses or only online stores, while others accept work from many different areas. Both ways seem to have their own benefits and problems. Specializing may make you more skilled in one area, but having different clients may bring more chances. I am trying to understand which path makes more sense in the long run. Is it better to stay focused or keep things open?
