Sending affiliate links through direct messages can be a sensitive topic in affiliate marketing. It's not always the best idea to send these links without permission, as it might come across as spammy or pushy, which could turn people off. Instead, building trust first is key. For example, sharing valuable content or starting a conversation about a topic related to the product can create a connection before introducing a link. Also, consider the platform's rules, as some, like Instagram or WhatsApp, have guidelines about unsolicited messages. Always ask yourself if the recipient would find the link helpful or relevant. If you're unsure, try posting links in public spaces like forums or your own social media, where people can choose to engage. What are your thoughts on this approach to sharing affiliate links?

DMing affiliate links feels risky to me. Not just because it can look spammy, but also because some platforms will flag or ban your account if you do it too much. I tried it once and got no replies. Now I focus more on posting helpful stuff that makes people ask questions. That gives me a reason to talk about the product naturally. I think it works better when people come to you, not the other way around. Just my experience.

It is not always recommendable doing that. It is trespassing into your audience personal life which others may see as being intrusive. But if the person grants you the permission to do so, then rhere is nothing bad in it.
However there are different methods by which affiliate links can be shared apart from sending it through direct messages. And sending it though direct message don't actually make it any better.

Sending affiliate links through direct messages usually comes across as spam and can hurt your reputation. Most people do not like getting unsolicited messages trying to sell them things. It can also get your accounts banned on many social media platforms since they have rules against this type of messaging. Building relationships first and then sharing helpful content publicly works much better than cold messaging with affiliate links.

Instead of sending links directly, try building genuine connections first. If someone asks for product recommendations in comments or messages, then sharing affiliate links makes more sense because they actually wanted help. Focus on creating valuable content that people want to engage with, and let them come to you with questions. This approach takes longer but builds real trust with potential customers.

Direct messaging (DMing) affiliate links to people is generally not a good practice. It can come off as spammy or pushy, especially if the recipient didn't ask for the link or isn't familiar with you. Many social media platforms also have rules against unsolicited affiliate promotions, which could result in your account being flagged or banned. A better approach is to build trust first provide value, engage with your audience, and only share links when someone genuinely expresses interest in a product.

No it's not proper to DM people with your affiliate links. You are invading their privacy by doing so. There are so many strategic was you can promote your affiliate links without affecting anyone. You can start a YouTube channel in your niche to promote the product you are promoting as an affiliate. You can also start a Facebook page creating content to promote the product as well with your affiliate links.

I think this kind of thing works only when there is permission or clear interest. If someone asks for help or recommendations, then sharing a link makes sense. But sending links randomly to people usually does more harm than good and can reduce trust quickly.

Dropping a random link into someone's DMs feels spammy and a little desperate. Nobody likes feeling like a walking wallet. If it's a close friend and you genuinely think the product solves a problem they mentioned, maybe say, "Hey, I use this thing and love it. Full disclosure, it's my link, no pressure." That's fine. But mass DMing or cold-messaging strangers? That's how you get ignored or blocked. Trust matters more than a quick commission. Affiliate marketing works best when you're helpful first. Share links in stories, blogs, or YouTube descriptions.
