Ask Is it a mistake to sell too early on social media?

Jumping straight to selling before people know or trust a page often pushes them away instead of pulling them in. Many businesses post a product and ask for a sale right away, but strangers online rarely buy from someone they just met. Trust needs time to build through helpful posts, honest answers, and regular interaction. Selling too soon can make a page look pushy or desperate for attention. What do you think is the right amount of time before a business should start selling directly?

I don't think there's a fixed number of days or weeks for this. It depends on how active the page already looks. A page that posts daily and answers comments can start selling sooner than one that just shows up once a week.

Honestly some products sell themselves even without all this trust building talk. If something solves a real problem people will buy fast no matter how new the page is. So maybe it's not always about time, it's about how much people actually need the thing.

I disagree a little. Waiting too long to sell can also hurt because people forget why they followed the page in the first place. There should be a mix from the start, some helpful posts and small mentions of what you sell, not total silence for weeks.

What about pages that grew fast through a viral post? Do they still need to wait before selling or does the sudden attention already give them enough trust? I feel like that changes everything about timing.

I do not think there is a fixed amount of time because it depends on the audience and the type of business. Instead of waiting for a certain number of days or weeks, I would focus on building trust first by sharing useful content, answering questions, and engaging with people.

For me, the right time to sell is when potential customers understand what the business offers and why it is worth their attention. That trust can develop quickly or slowly depending on the quality of the content and the relationship with the audience. I believe consistent value, honest communication, and patience usually lead to better long-term results than trying to make an immediate sale.
