I don't know if I envy or pity the young people who have no idea what the internet was before every single pixel was monetized. If I try to read a random article on basically any website, at least 40% of the screen is ads. And it's gotten so aggressive. They pop up and take over the top and bottom thirds of the screen, with tiny little X's that barely work. If you miss the X, pop up window. Gotta close that window and get back to the first, try to close the ad again.

It's actually horrible. The internet should've been man's greatest invention. But it's become a daily nightmare imo. I actually hate browsing the web for the most part now. The prevalence of ads in our daily existence is soul crushing.

Edit: if this bothers anyone else on iPhone try out BlockBear app. Seems to be working well.

From what I've read and experienced, BlockBear works pretty well on Safari, especially for blocking pop-up ads that keep appearing. It stops most banners, annoying overlays, and unexpected pop-ups that make browsing frustrating. Of course, it isn't perfect, and some very aggressive pop-ups might still get through, but overall it makes websites much cleaner. People on Reddit have mentioned that it helps speed up browsing too because fewer ads are loading. For iOS users, it seems like a solid choice.

You're absolutely right—ads have taken over the internet, and it's frustrating when they disrupt even basic browsing. I've used BlockBear, and it's been helpful for blocking most pop-ups and banners on my iPhone. It doesn't catch everything, but it does a good job overall. I think tools like this are becoming essential if we want to enjoy browsing without constantly being bombarded by intrusive ads.
