It cuts through vanity signals like logins or page views and focuses on real value created inside the system. It also balances quantity and quality by requiring contributions to pass a basic validation step, not just be attempted. Tracking trends in this metric over time would reveal whether access rules actually encourage active involvement or just passive browsing. It also highlights drop-offs when participation becomes harder or less rewarding.

For me, the most useful metric would be the number of meaningful contributions that get approved each month. A person can log in every day and still add little value. When members consistently create posts, comments, or other contributions that meet quality standards, it shows they are actively involved and not just passing through the platform.
