I feel a little unsure about this part of my store. I check my sales and website reports often and some products seem to attract certain buyers while others get very little attention. The patterns confuse me and I can't figure out who exactly my target audience is.

I run a small e-commerce shop and I recently tried analyzing customer behavior. I looked at purchase history, demographics, and browsing habits. I also ran a few ads targeting different groups and tracked engagement.

The results looked mixed and I still don't know how to clearly define my ideal customers.

How to identify target audience for an e-commerce business?

Think about their interests, hobbies, and what problems your product can solve. Check out your competitors and see who's engaging with them. Social media and website stats can also show you who's visiting and buying. Another trick is making customer personas which is basically pretend profiles of your ideal buyers to guide your marketing. In the end, your target audience is just the people who actually want and need your products

Looking at competitors helps too, since their customers might look a lot like yours. Don't ignore reviews and surveys either; customers are usually pretty honest about what they like and want. Once you spot patterns, create a few simple customer profiles.

Figure out who's actually buying, not who you want to buy. Start with your current customer data. Then, dig into sales history. What do your bestsellers have in common? Who's leaving reviews? Send a quick survey or poll to get direct feedback. Finally, test everything with small ad campaigns. The data will tell you who clicks and converts. Your target audience isn't static. Know them better than they know themselves, and your marketing will actually hit home.
