Handling a client company bankruptcy as a freelance business can be a daunting experience, but it's important to take certain steps to protect your interests. Here are some key points to consider when faced with this situation:

1. **Communication**: The first step is to communicate with your client to understand the situation and the impact it may have on your project. Make sure to inquire about any outstanding payments or pending work.

2. **Legal Advice**: Seek legal advice to understand your rights and options in terms of recovering payments or negotiating with the bankrupt company. An attorney specializing in bankruptcy law can guide you through the process.

3. **Document Everything**: Keep all communication, contracts, invoices, and receipts related to the project. These documents can be crucial in case of legal proceedings or if you need to prove your claim in the bankruptcy process.

4. **Proof of Claim**: If the client owes you money for work done, you may need to file a proof of claim with the bankruptcy court to seek payment as a creditor. The bankruptcy court will determine how assets are distributed among creditors.

5. **Financial Planning**: In case you are unable to recover the full amount owed, it's important to reassess your financial situation and make necessary adjustments to ensure your business's stability.

6. **Client Evaluation**: Evaluate the client's financial stability before taking on future projects with them. Consider conducting credit checks or requesting advance payments to minimize the risk of non-payment.

7. **Protecting Assets**: If you have equipment or resources belonging to you on the client's premises, ensure that you can retrieve them before any liquidation or asset seizure occurs.

8. **Professional Support**: Consider hiring a financial advisor or debt collection agency to assist you in recovering outstanding payments from the bankrupt client.

Remember, each bankruptcy case is unique, and it's crucial to seek individualized advice from legal and financial professionals to navigate the process smoothly. Overall, maintaining open communication, documenting everything, and seeking professional guidance are essential steps in handling client company bankruptcies as a freelance business.
