Most people start freelancing by doing many different types of tasks for anyone who is willing to pay them. This is what we call being a generalist, but it often leads to low pay and too much stress. I believe that picking one specific area and becoming an expert is the only way to charge much higher rates. It takes time to build a reputation in just one niche so others know your name.
