Ask How do you handle a project where the client is unresponsive but the deadline is close?

This is one of those situations that almost every freelancer runs into at some point, and it never gets easier to deal with no matter how experienced you are. You reach out, you wait, you send another message, and still nothing comes back while the deadline keeps moving closer. The hard part is that you cannot always just move ahead and make decisions on your own because the client might come back and reject everything you did without their input. I am curious to know what approach other freelancers take when a client goes completely silent close to a deadline.
