I'm putting together my first online course, and I feel a bit lost. I've gathered a bunch of content ideas, but now I'm unsure how to sort them. I keep asking myself what should go into the main part of the course and what should be extra?

Some lessons feel important, but I'm not sure if they are "core" or just nice to have. I don't want to confuse learners with too much at once. But I also don't want to leave out something essential.

I really want the structure to be clear and helpful.

How do I decide which content belongs in the core modules?

When deciding which content belongs in the core modules of your online course, consider the following factors to help you make confident decisions. Review the main learning objectives of your course. Content that directly aligns with these objectives and is essential for achieving them should be included in the core modules.

Deciding what goes in your core modules is really just about figuring out the must-haves. Think of them like the backbone of your course. Ask yourself, Can someone really get by without this? If the answer's no, it belongs in the core. Skip the fancy extras or super niche stuff. Also, make sure the core pieces connect and make sense together, like a little learning story.

When determining which content to include in the core modules of your online course, it's essential to consider the foundational knowledge or skills that learners need to acquire to grasp the course's main concepts. Think about what is crucial for them to succeed in understanding the more advanced topics or applying the knowledge in real-world situations

If someone can't move forward without it or everything else won't make sense without it, then it belongs in the core. A simple way to check is to ask, "Is this essential, or just nice to have?" Core content should be the basics everyone needs, not the extra details or special-interest topics. Also, anything that other lessons build on should go in the core so people don't get lost later. Stuff that's more advanced, optional, or only useful in certain cases can go elsewhere. Basically, keep core modules clean and focused on the foundations.

When deciding on the content for your core modules in your online course, ensure that you focus on the essential knowledge or skills that learners must acquire to meet the main learning objectives. Consider if the content is fundamental for understanding the core concepts or progressing in the course. Core modules should provide the foundational framework upon which the rest of the course can build upon.

When determining which content should be included in the core modules of your online course, it's crucial to focus on the essential information that forms the backbone of your course. Consider content that directly aligns with the main learning objectives and is necessary for learners to understand the foundational concepts. Core modules should cover the must-have information that is essential for students to progress through the course successfully.
