Sometimes affiliate marketers promote a product not because they believe in it, but simply to see if the program actually works. This means signing up, sharing the link, and checking if clicks or sales are tracked correctly. Some people even try with low effort promotions like a small blog post, a short video, or a social media mention just to see how the system reports. It can be useful for testing, but there is always a question of trust and reputation. If the product is poor, promoting it might damage credibility with an audience. Would it be better to test privately before sharing publicly? Has anyone here tried promoting only for the purpose of testing, and did it give useful results or just waste time?

I've tried promoting for testing purposes, and while it gave me insights into how the system worked, it wasn't worth the risk to my credibility. One product I tested ended up getting negative feedback from my audience, and I had to do damage control. I think testing privately first, maybe by buying the product yourself or running small-scale ads, is a better approach. Your audience will trust you more if you only promote products you stand behind.
