One of the realities of freelancing that people do not talk about enough is that when you stop working, the money stops too. There is no sick pay waiting for you if you fall ill, and taking a holiday means losing income for however long you are away. In a regular job, these benefits are built in, but freelancers have to plan for them on their own. Some people get better at saving for those gaps over time, but it still stings every time it happens. Does it actually get easier, or do you just learn to live with it?

I think it doesn't really get "easier," but you learn how to plan around it better. Many freelancers start setting aside a small backup fund for days they can't work. Over time, this reduces the stress because you're not fully dependent on working every single day to earn.

First time you drag your feverish butt to work, you're like, "Okay, once." But by the tenth time? You're just chugging DayQuil like candy, hiding coughs on Zoom, and praying no one notices you're dying. The math never changes: rent vs. lying down. That sucks forever. But you're still exhausted, still calculating if you can "afford" to be sick. That's not getting easier; it's just surviving. And surviving day after day? Yeah, it's total garbage no matter how used to it you get.
