I am wrapping up a full website build for a client and now they are asking for a separate landing page for ads. I am unsure if this should be included in the original scope or billed as new work. I am tracking my hours and the landing page needs copy design and testing that were not discussed before. I am trying to stay fair while also protecting my time. I am open to package deals but do not want to set a bad precedent.

The question I want to ask you guys Does freelance need to charge extra for building landing page after website project is delivered?

It's great that you are considering how to navigate this situation in a fair and professional manner. When it comes to additional work like creating a landing page for a client after the website project has been completed, there are a few factors to consider:

1. **Scope Creep:** If the landing page was not included in the original scope of work and involves new tasks such as copywriting, design, and testing, it's reasonable to treat it as a separate project. Be clear with your client that this is additional work beyond the initial website build.

2. **Time and Effort:** It's important to track the hours spent on this new task to maintain transparency. This will also help you in calculating a fair price for the additional work based on the time and effort involved.

3. **Value Proposition:** Highlight the value of the landing page to your client. Explain how it can enhance their marketing efforts, improve conversion rates, and drive more traffic to their website. This can justify the additional cost of creating the landing page.

4. **Package Deals:** Offering package deals can be a good way to handle new requests from clients without setting a precedent for free additional work. You can outline different service tiers that include varying levels of post-launch support and additional tasks like creating landing pages.

5. **Setting Expectations:** Communicate clearly with your client about your pricing structure and the distinction between the original project scope and additional tasks. This can help avoid misunderstandings and ensure that both parties are on the same page.

In conclusion, while it's important to be fair to your client, it's equally important to protect your time and expertise as a freelancer. Charging extra for building a landing page after the website project is delivered is reasonable, especially when it involves new work that was not initially agreed upon. By setting clear boundaries and communicating effectively with your client, you can maintain a professional relationship while also ensuring that your efforts are adequately compensated.
