Employers are usually more interested in seeing successful campaigns, measurable results, and problem-solving skills than formal qualifications alone.
 
I think a strong portfolio carries more weight in digital marketing because it shows real results. If someone can prove they know how to grow traffic, increase sales, or manage successful campaigns, many clients and employers will pay attention. A degree is still valuable, but practical skills are often what open the door.
 
A degree can give a solid foundation, especially in marketing principles and business strategy, but it shouldn't be the only thing someone relies on. Digital marketing changes so quickly that learning through real projects, online courses, and constant practice is just as important as formal education.
 
Many big companies still throw away applications if they do not see a university certificate on the paper. Even if you know how to run internet advertisements perfectly, passing that first human resource check is very difficult. It is a sad reality that skills alone do not always open doors.
 
Most clients only care about results at the end of the month. If you can show them that you brought in new customers and increased their money, nobody will ask for your certificate. The proof of your work matters much more than any school paper you have on your wall.
 
It is easy to say certificates do not matter, but having one gives you a very strong foundation. School teaches you about human behavior, communication, and business thinking. Those deep lessons stay with you forever, even when internet tools change, helping you grow into high leadership positions later on.
 
Starting this type of work without a school background means you must be ready to study every single day. There is no teacher to guide you or give you a schedule. If you lack heavy self-discipline to read and practice constantly, you will fail before you even start properly.
 
Many people start doing this work for small local shops around them. You do not need a big qualification to help a neighborhood bakery find customers on social media platforms. Once you succeed with small businesses, your name spreads by word of mouth, and your path grows from there.
 
The real problem is that the internet is full of bad information now. Without a proper school guide, a beginner might waste months learning wrong methods from fake online experts. Having a structured university system saves you from confusion and helps you learn the correct things in the right order.
