YouTube creators and bloggers have been doing this for years. The challenge is that it usually takes a very large and consistent audience before the money becomes reliable. Depending entirely on a platform's payment structure also comes with risk since those terms can change. Do you think content-only income is stable enough to be someone's main source of earnings?

This is a real question but people don't think about it clearly. You are always selling something even when you think you are not. Attention is a product. When you have enough of it, money follows. The only difference is who's paying, a brand, a platform, or your audience directly.

The people who make this work long term usually have at least three platforms running at once. One platform drying up doesn't kill them. Anyone trying to do this from a single source is taking a bigger risk than they realize.

What counts as "selling"? If your content gets someone to click an affiliate link, you are selling. If a brand pays you to make a video, you are selling. Pure ad revenue is the only one that feels passive but even that is just selling eyeballs to advertisers.

Platforms change their rules whenever they want. What works for ad revenue today might be cut in half next year. Ask anyone who built purely on YouTube ad money before the 2017-2018 policy changes. They felt it. Content alone is a shaky foundation without something backing it.
