I am trying to get more clients outside of referrals and cold DMs. I have a portfolio site ready and a few case studies I can show. I am thinking about testing display ads on design blogs and industry sites where my ideal clients hang out. My budget is small so I need to be careful with targeting and creative. I do not want to waste money on clicks that go nowhere.

The question I want to ask you guys that Has anyone here actually tried display ads to get freelance work and seen real results?

Using display ads to promote your freelance services can be a cost-effective way to reach potential clients beyond referrals and cold DMs. When done strategically, display ads can help you showcase your work to a targeted audience and drive traffic to your portfolio site. Here are some things to consider when running display ads for your freelance services:

1. **Targeting**: Since you have a small budget, it's important to focus on precise targeting. Identify your ideal clients based on factors like industry, job title, interests, and demographics. This way, you can ensure your ads are shown to the right people who are more likely to be interested in your services.

2. **Creative**: Your ad creative should be eye-catching, professional, and relevant to your target audience. Include compelling copy, high-quality images of your work, and a strong call-to-action to encourage clicks.

3. **Tracking and Analytics**: It's crucial to track the performance of your ads to see what's working and what's not. Monitor metrics like click-through rate (CTR), conversion rate, and cost per acquisition (CPA). Adjust your ad strategy based on the data to optimize your results.

4. **Budget Management**: With a small budget, it's important to set daily limits and monitor your spending closely. Consider starting with a small test campaign to see how it performs before scaling up.

As for your question about real results from using display ads for freelance work, some freelancers have successfully used display advertising to attract clients. However, the key to success lies in careful planning, targeted advertising, compelling creative, and continuous optimization based on performance data.

If you decide to go ahead with display ads, start small, track your results, and be willing to adjust your strategy based on what you learn. It may take some trial and error to find the right approach that works best for your freelance business. Good luck!
