Hi there! I'm currently working on a project that focuses on the evolution of online advertising, particularly the early days of the internet. As part of this, I'm looking to gather a collection of old, ugly, and intrusive pop-up ads that were common between roughly 1996 and 2010. You know the type—blinking text, garish colors, fake "You've Won!" banners, and maybe even some animated GIFs. I'd really appreciate it if anyone could point me toward an archive, resource, or collection that features these kinds of pop-ups. Those old pop-up ads were often ugly and distracting, but they are a huge part of internet history. Some Reddit threads on vintage tech and old websites have collected screenshots of them. Another good place is YouTube, where people upload compilations of old internet ads and pop-ups. You might also try searching for old demo software or archives of 90s web pages, because they often preserve the look and feel of those annoying ads.

If anyone looking for some real terrible examples, I've got your back. Those obnoxious, flashing pop-ups that cover the whole screen and you can't even close? The stuff nightmares are made of! I'd be more than happy to dig up some real doozies if you want a good laugh (or groan) at how bad they can be. Just be prepared, because those pop-ups are a special kind of awful. But at least we can bond over how much they drive us crazy!

The worst ones have bright flashing colors, fake virus warnings, weird countdown timers, and tiny close buttons that are impossible to find. Some pop up out of nowhere and cover the whole screen while you're trying to watch a video or read something. Others try to trick you into clicking by saying stuff like "You won a free iPhone!" or "Your device is infected!" They usually make websites look sketchy and untrustworthy. A lot of people leave sites immediately because the ads are so frustrating. Ads are supposed to grab attention, but terrible pop-up ads just make people mad instead. Good websites keep ads simple and not too distracting
