Ask Can GoDaddy Wildcard redirect all URLs without .htaccess?

Client: eCommerce

Domain: GoDaddy

Hosting: Shopify

We're looking to redirect all the traffic from one domain to another no matter which page is hit to a completely different domain.

E.g:

www.olddomain.com/whatever.html

www.olddomain.com/somethingelse.php

www.olddomain.com/anotherthing.htm

Would all need to redirect to:

www.some-other-domain.com

On GoDaddy, you can do this with with htaccess, but the client does not technically have their own hosting as they use Shopify (no CPanel), so we do not have htaccess in GoDaddy.

To my understanding, GoDaddy does not allow for WildCard redirects outside of CPanel.

Is this assumption correct and there is no way to redirect from GoDaddy?

A second part of the problem is that the client wants to keep the existing emails/domain running on the domain. To my understanding, seeing how we aren't changing the MX records, the email should still be fine, or would this assumption be incorrect?

Okay, so here's the situation as I've seen it. GoDaddy's default domain forwarding is very basic. You can point olddomain.com to a new domain, but any page paths like /whatever.html won't automatically redirect unless you have server access or a tool that supports wildcard redirects. Since Shopify handles the website, you could potentially manage redirects inside Shopify, but GoDaddy alone won't do it. And yes, leaving MX records untouched means emails will continue to work without interruption.

You're spot on about GoDaddy not supporting wildcard redirects outside of CPanel. If you're stuck with Shopify hosting, you might need to use GoDaddy's domain forwarding feature, though it'll just send everything to the main domain, not specific pages. As for email, you're right—keeping the MX records untouched should keep it working. Just make sure the DNS settings don't accidentally get reset during the redirect process.

You can go into your domain settings, set up a forwarding rule, and use * to catch all URLs and send them somewhere else. The thing is, it mostly works at the domain level, not for super specific paths. So example.com/* can go to newsite.com, but if you want example.com/blog/* to redirect properly, you might need .htaccess or a fancier setup. For simple send everything somewhere else stuff, GoDaddy's wildcard forwarding is super easy
