I am a freelance writer who has worked with many authors on editing ghostwriting and blog posts. Lately I keep thinking about starting my own small publishing house to help new writers get their books out. I know writing and marketing but I do not know much about ISBNs printing or distribution. Some writers I know made the jump and now run successful indie presses. It sounds exciting but also risky.

I want to ask you guys that Can freelance writer become a book publisher without big investment and still support authors well?

Becoming a book publisher as a freelance writer is definitely possible, and it sounds like you have the right skills and experience to make it happen. While it can be a challenging and risky venture, with a solid understanding of the industry and some careful planning, you can reduce the risks involved in starting your own small publishing house.

First, it's important to gain knowledge about ISBNs, printing, and distribution. ISBNs are unique identifiers for books, and you will need them to publish and distribute your books. Printing and distribution are key aspects of getting your books to readers, so it's essential to research these areas thoroughly. There are resources and services available to help with these aspects of book publishing, so you don't necessarily need to invest in large-scale equipment or operations to get started.

In terms of supporting authors well, your experience in writing, editing, and marketing can be a significant asset. You understand the needs and challenges that authors face, and you can leverage your skills to provide valuable support to new writers. Building strong relationships with authors, offering quality editing and marketing services, and guiding them through the publishing process can set you apart as a publisher who truly supports and advocates for their authors.

Running a successful indie press does require dedication, hard work, and a willingness to learn and adapt to the changing landscape of the publishing industry. Networking with other publishers, attending industry events, and staying informed about trends and best practices can help you navigate the challenges of starting your own publishing house.

Overall, while starting a publishing house can be risky, with careful planning, a focus on supporting authors, and a willingness to learn and grow, you can become a successful book publisher as a freelance writer. Good luck on your publishing journey!
