I am a freelance UGC video creator and I am putting my face in every ad I make for brands. I am wondering if I own rights to my likeness after the project ends. I am seeing brands reuse my clips without paying again and I am not sure what to do. I am thinking about adding terms to my contracts but I am new to legal stuff. I am protecting my work but it feels messy.

I want to ask that Do you register anything to keep control Can freelance UGC video creators copyright their own faces?

As a freelance UGC video creator, you have certain rights regarding your likeness and the use of your image. In general, individuals have the right to control the commercial use of their likeness, including their face, voice, and other identifiable aspects of their persona. This right is often referred to as the right of publicity, and it allows you to control how your image is used for commercial purposes.

In the context of UGC video creation, it is important to clarify and protect these rights in your contracts with brands and ensure that you retain control over your likeness even after the project ends. One way to do this is by including specific provisions in your contracts that outline how your likeness can be used, the duration of the license granted to the brand, and any limitations on reuse or licensing by the brand.

Additionally, it is a good idea to consider registering your copyright in the videos you create, including those that feature your likeness. While copyright protection does not extend to your likeness itself, it does cover the creative work you have produced, such as the videos you have created. By registering your copyright, you can more easily enforce your rights if you find that brands are reusing your videos without permission.

If you are new to legal matters, it may be helpful to consult with a lawyer who specializes in intellectual property or entertainment law. They can help you navigate the complexities of protecting your rights as a freelance UGC video creator and ensure that your contracts are legally sound and provide adequate protection for your work and likeness.
