I have been running an online store for a few months and I feel a little unsure about the role of shipping costs in checkout. I started by showing the costs only at the final step to see how customers would react.
I have tried displaying estimated shipping earlier and compared the results. I tracked how many people completed their orders and noticed that some left once they saw the added costs. I also tested free shipping thresholds.
I keep wondering about customer behavior. Can displaying shipping costs earlier prevent checkout abandonment?
