Ask Can a freelancer be penalized for asking a client to mark a project as complete after it is clearly done?

After finishing a job, some clients take a long time to officially close the project, which can hold up payment and affect a freelancer's stats. So some freelancers send a gentle reminder asking the client to mark it as complete. But I have heard that on certain platforms, this kind of message can be flagged or seen as pressuring the client. It feels unfair if that is the case, especially when the work is fully delivered. Is there a proper way to follow up, or do platforms actually penalize freelancers for doing this?
