I absolutely can't stand subscription pop-ups they feel intrusive and disruptive to the browsing experience. Because of that, I've intentionally avoided using them on my blog. Instead, I'm trying a more subtle approach by placing the sign-up form in two key locations: in the menu bar for easy visibility and at the bottom of every blog post with a clear call to action encouraging readers to subscribe. The idea is to make the form easily accessible without forcing it on visitors. My goal is to maintain a smooth user experience while still growing my email list. I'm curious has anyone experimented with running a blog or website with and without a pop-up? I'd love to hear how it impacted your sign-up rates and overall engagement.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of subscription pop-ups either. I think they can work if they're timed well or triggered by behavior, like scrolling down or showing exit intent, but even then they can feel pushy. On my site, having forms in the menu and after posts feels cleaner and doesn't interrupt the reading experience. The trade-off is slower list growth, but the quality of subscribers seems better because people sign up because they actually want to, not because they were forced to click.

I think subscription pop-ups can be really effective, but only if they're used the right way. If the pop-up is well-designed, offers real value (like a discount or free resource), and isn't too intrusive, then I'm okay with them. But when they're spammy, hard to close, or show up immediately without context, they can be super annoying. It's all about balance helpful, not pushy!
