Does anyone know if pop-ups are bad for SEO? I've heard that they can lead to higher bounce rates, which might hurt your site's rankings, but at the same time, many websites still use them and seem to be doing fine. I'm curious about the real impact pop-ups have on SEO. If they do cause issues, what are some ways to implement them without negatively affecting search performance? For example, are there specific types of pop-ups that are better for SEO, or does timing and placement make a difference? I would be looking forward to your responses thanks in advance

Pop-ups only become a problem when they hurt how people use your website. Google does not hate pop-ups as a concept. What they hate is when websites prioritize their own goals over helping visitors. If your pop-up makes sense and does not get in the way, you can use it without worrying about SEO.

Some websites put pop-ups only on certain pages, like blog posts, and skip them on landing pages. That way, people coming from Google don't get annoyed right away. Another trick is using a delay timer so the pop-up appears after someone has been on the page for a while. This shows you respect their time and aren't just trying to grab their attention immediately.

I think pop-ups aren't always bad for SEO, but they can hurt user experience if overused. Google cares about how people interact with your site, so intrusive pop-ups that cover content can lower rankings. If you use them wisely, like exit-intent or small banners, they usually won't cause problems.

Pop-ups won't destroy your SEO, but they can make things worse if you are not careful. Some websites use exit-intent pop-ups, which appear when someone is about to leave. Those tend to work better because they don't interrupt reading. Others show pop-ups immediately, and that pushes visitors away fast.

There are ways to use pop-ups without damaging SEO. Give people a few seconds to look at your content before showing anything. Make sure the close button is visible and easy to click. Don't use multiple pop-ups on the same page because that's just obnoxious. Some sites do this and wonder why their traffic drops.
