Backlinks help Google judge trust, but they're not the whole story. A page that clearly matches search intent, loads quickly, and gives useful answers can still rank well without many links, especially for low-competition keywords. In tougher niches, backlinks matter more, but they work best alongside strong, relevant content rather than replacing it.

You know Google has become much better at understanding whether a page actually answers a searcher's question. The difference is that an article with no backlinks but excellent information may outrank a page with many links if it satisfies users better. Relevance can sometimes beat authority in certain search results.
