I feel a little stuck trying to understand the balance between new traffic and repeat customers. I read a lot of opinions and now I don't know which one matters more for growth.

I started running ads to bring in new buyers. It worked for a while and sales went up. At the same time I tried email campaigns to get old buyers to return. Some came back, though not as many as I hoped.

Now I'm unsure which direction deserves more focus. What role does repeat customer retention play in scaling revenue compared to chasing new
traffic?
 
Sure, getting fresh traffic is fun but it's pricey and unpredictable. People who've already bought from you trust your brand, so they're more likely to come back and even spend more. Happy repeat customers also tell their friends, which saves you marketing money and keeps sales steady. Growing through retention isn't just selling more stuff, but rather, it's about building relationships, encouraging upgrades, and getting more value from each customer.
 
Keeping repeat customers usually beats chasing new people all the time. People who already know and like your brand are way more likely to buy again without you having to pour money into ads to get them in the door. Plus, happy regulars can spread the word and bring in new customers for free. Chasing new traffic nonstop can feel like running on a treadmill: a lot of work for uncertain results. Of course, you still want new customers, but focusing on retention gives you steady, predictable growth.
