Plus, they've had time to get shared on social media or linked in other content, which keeps the traffic flowing. They need time to build up momentum and start ranking high. So, even if a new post is great, it takes a bit for it to catch up to the older ones.
It is possible for the old blogs to bring new customers if the keyword in the old blogs align with the new trending issues. Most times the search engines or the algorithm of the social media can decide to bring some old stuff that are relevant in the current phase.
