I used to send the same generic proposal with a link to my full portfolio and got almost no replies. Last week I tried something different. I picked 3 past projects that matched the clients industry and added 2 sentences on what I learned from each one. I also mocked up a quick banner in their brand colors. The client replied in 2 hours.
