The real standard should be consistent, proven results over time across different websites and situations. Someone can be called an SEO expert when they can reliably improve rankings and traffic, understand why changes work (not just that they work), and handle technical, content, and strategy issues without relying on guesswork. Titles matter less than the ability to deliver measurable growth and adapt when search algorithms or conditions change.
 
You can call yourself an SEO expert when you consistently achieve good results, not just when you know the theory. If you have helped websites improve their rankings, increase organic traffic, and solve SEO problems across different projects, you have earned that title through experience.
 
For me, being an SEO expert is about continuous learning as much as knowledge. Search engines change regularly, so even experienced professionals keep learning and adapting. When you can confidently build SEO strategies, explain your decisions, and produce steady results, you are probably ready to consider yourself an expert.
