Some people assume that the United States leads simply because of its large economy and tech industry, while others point to countries like India and Bangladesh where freelancing has become a major source of income for millions of people. The answer can also change depending on whether you are counting total numbers or the percentage of the working population. Population size alone doesn't tell you much here. A country can have millions of people but only a small number actually doing paid work online. What matters more is how many are active and getting paid, not just how many signed up on a platform once and disappeared.

Internet cost and power supply play a bigger part in this than people admit. Some countries have talented people but they can't stay online long enough to compete for jobs. That alone can push a country down the list even if the skill level is actually high there.

I think United States has the highest number of freelance in the world because most of the client also come from that platform and country. I think India in the next in terms of the number of freelancer across all the platforms. Also the Pakistan have big number of freelance in all categories
